It's Life
Caught

“…our lives are like a coin, and the two of us are opposite sides.”

“I’m glad you get it.”

“Yeah, I get it.  So you think we won’t be together?”

“Our lives are too different.  We’re never in the same place at the same time.  We have different journeys to take.”

Her eyes are dull and sullen.  His voice is soaked with stiff melancholy.

“You’re right that our lives are a coin, and a coin has two sides that will never see each other, but if you flip a coin the images blur together.  Two opposites together as one, if even for one brief moment, and a coin flipping end-over-end is much more wild and stunning than a still coin.  Here we are, living on this coin waiting to be flipped, tossed, wished-upon.  It’s up to us to start spinning.”

Being one for Platonic logic he stares at her in awe.  His mind flips end over end with his falling heart.  He tries to stare into her eyes, but she looks away to find an object to give her strength and keep from letting her welling eyes unleash.

“I…  I,“ he starts but decides to chew on his words for another moment.  He doesn’t want to say anything he shouldn’t.  “You’re right.”

She looks up.  He’s as stunned at his words as she is.

“You’re right.  I was stupid to not see it.  It would be a waste of life to not start spinning together, even if it only lasts a moment.”

Tears roll down her flushed cheeks.  His long fingers crawl across the table and wrap around her small hand.  She laughs.  He laughs.  They laugh.  Hug.  Tears.  Kiss.

Looking in on the scene it seems dramatic and cliché.  Onlookers stare out of the corners of their eyes at the two acting so melodramatically.  It doesn’t matter, because they’re not in the moment.  They’re not set off spinning into a blur of one.  They’re just sitting, staring, not living.
